Who we are

Welcome!! My name is Karen Rabenberg. I am the President of the Prineville Senior Center Charitable Trust Board. We run the Prineville Senior Center and the Neat Repeat Thrift Store. We are a 501(c)3 corporation which simply means we are a charitable, non-profit business. Our mission is to provide nutritious meals 5 days a week to senior citizens 60 and older and to deliver meals to seniors and Title 19 recipients that qualify for home-delivered meals under the Older Americans Act. We partner with the Council on Aging for this aspect of our Home-Delivered Meal program.

Recently, we have added a new service to our Home-Delivered Meal program. We want to be a resource for meal delivery to someone who is recovering from an injury, illness or surgery that needs help with meals for a short period of time. This is a new program which will be managed in-house. We will be working out the details over the next few months, but our intent is to make this service available on a limited basis beginning March 1, 2025. As with all our programs, this program must comply with our 60+ age requirement for the next 2 years. Please contact the Senior Center for more information at the number below.

We also work to combat senior isolation by providing various activities every day for seniors to participate in. These activities include Line-Dancing and Cornhole, Pool, Ping Pong, Bridge, Cribbage, or Pinochle. We also offer a Chair Exercise class. We have access by appointment to foot care for those who need that service and chair massage once a month. We have opportunities to speak with an attorney if you have legal questions. From time to time, other activities are planned and each month we celebrate birthdays with a special lunch and dancing with the “Just For Fun Band”.

Mission Statement

Put simply, our mission is to positively affect the mental and physical health of senior citizens in our community by providing food security through our meal programs and to fight against senior isolation by providing a place to gather and participate in meals and activities with other seniors.

Structure:

The Prineville Senior Center Charitable Trust is a privately owned charitable organization. It is composed of 2 separate 501(c)3 Corporations. The Prineville Center Foundation club operates to serve the community by providing scholarships for  high school graduates in Crook County. The club also provides the governing board for the Prineville Senior Center and the Neat Repeat Thrift Store. A 7-member board is elected from and by the membership of the club to maintain and direct the daily operations of the senior center and thrift store.

The dollars you spend at the Neat Repeat provide about half of the operating expenses for the Charitable Trust.  Other income comes from our partnership with the Council on Aging who distributes funds for our food program, provided by the federal government through the Older Americans Act. In addition, we actively seek grant monies and we receive monetary and meat donations from our community and the seniors who frequent the senior center.

It is important to note that we do not receive any support from city or county tax revenues.

Scholarships

Each year, the Prineville Center Foundation awards at least one scholarship to a graduating Crook County senior. We observed that the number of students choosing to pursue a vocational education program following graduation has been steadily increasing. These programs provide a graduate with the ability to develop skills and earn a certification for a well-paying job usually in 2 years or less, for a much smaller price tag. Computer technology skills, medical and dental hygienist skills, diesel mechanics, and welders, electricians, and plumbers are just a few of the programs available. Since graduates with these interests are often overlooked in the normal scholarship evaluation process. The Prineville Center Foundation has decided to invest our scholarship dollars in these graduates. The number of scholarships we can provide each year depends on the money we are able to raise through donations and fundraisers such as the Christmas Flag project we do each year.

If you are a graduating senior, residing in Crook County, whether you attend CCHS, one of the private schools, or are home-schooled, you are eligible to apply. Applications for our scholarships are available from Crook County High School or email prinevillecf@gmail.com to request an application. We review all applications in May.
